Negative and Positive Value Leaflet Color Scheme / Legend

On review of their documentation:

https://rstudio.github.io/leaflet/legends.html

Est GDP shows 0 to 14,000,000

I can not find out how to plot negative values on the same scale?

I have - values in my data set - yet the colours only map from 0 to positive.

If I flip the sign, then it only shows 0 to most negative.

Anyone have experience with leaflet and able to plot positive and negative colours on the same map?
